About Us

Food is at the centre of many of society’s global challenges: the need to ensure a safe, sustainable and secure food supply for growing populations; addressing the increasing incidence of chronic diseases; and the challenges involved with an aging population. There is also an increased demand for high-quality food and the need to ensure that the Australian food industry remains competitive in the face of fierce global competition.

To address the above issues the Centre of Excellence for Advanced Food Enginomics (CAFE) was established at the Faculty of Engineering and IT at the University of Sydney in 2017. The CAFE comprises a cross-disciplinary cluster of high-profile and industry-focussed researchers specialised in engineering, agriculture, business, chemistry, molecular biology, and medicine.
