SEI Partners with the USU for the Inaugural USU X Sustainability Week

USU X Sustainability will run from May 28, celebrating the changes and partnerships the University of Sydney Union is implementing to help create a more environmentally-friendly campus.

USU X Sustainability will run from Tuesday May 28 for three days, demonstrating the changes and partnerships the University of Sydney Union (USU) is implementing to help create a more environmentally-friendly campus.

The initiative has garnered support from many clubs and societies across campus, as well as sponsorship from local businesses and key University partners including FoodLab Sydney and the Sydney Environment Institute.

The week’s events will be focussed on sustainability at the University and beyond, from reducing carbon footprints and food waste to imaging a future without plastic.

Courtyard Restaurant will be going 100% plastic free by removing all plastic packaging and replacing it with biodegradable tableware. Juice For Good’s fresh orange juice vending machines will available throughout the week, as well as Simply Cups recycling systems to safely dispose of single use cups.

On Wednesday May 29 the USU will take over Eastern Avenue with the USUeats Food Truck, baked goods by the Bread and Butter Project, a plant-based lunch menu and market stalls featuring all of the USU’s sustainability focused suppliers. Vittoria will be providing free coffee or tea in every reusable cup for BYO Cup to Campus Day.

A ‘How To: Think Sustainability’ workshop on Thursday May 30 will feature a team of keynote sustainability innovators and experts so that students can learn how they can implement sustainable practices in their everyday life. The workshop includes interactive displays, grazing tables and free pizza.

Many students at USYD are already engaged with sustainability efforts, and with the University’s recent recommitment to implementing a new and ambitious sustainability plan, these events aim to further contribute to long term revolution on campus and beyond.

The full program of events can be found on the USU website, and via the official Facebook event.
