Issue 2: The Great Barrier Reef Collection

Can the Great Barrier Reef survive climate change? Since its inception, The Sydney Environment Institute has worked to foster a multidisciplinary network of┬áresearchers, activists and community leaders who are working to explore environmental problems faced by the Great Barrier Reef (GBR). The articles in this collection explore the history of GBR activism; key debates surrounding GBR political action; coral science and bleaching research; and GBR stories – all which emphasise our ability to alter the current trajectory of the reef. As stated by SEI Co-Director Professor Iain McCalman, whose own work has formed the foundation of SEI’s GBR research, “we can save the reef because we did it once before”.
