Understanding and developing sustainable access to food.

Making food systems healthy, just, and sustainable is one of the most pressing problems facing modern society. What, where and how we eat is a result of complex interactions between a number of actors and social forces, operating across local and international scales.

Our knowledge of these food systems and their operation, however, is limited by approaches that tend to silo particular components, hiding from view the broader dynamics that create and sustain them. SEI facilitates cross-disciplinary collaboration between food researchers on campus, and aims to drive research and public engagement that places food firmly in its systemic context. Our goal is to enable sustainable and equitable access to food.
