Food Systems

Food Systems Planning Policy Lab

Insights into Community Urban Resilience Experiences.

Making food systems healthier, just, and sustainable is one of our most pressing wicked problems. This project aims to intervene in this global problem at the level of the City of Sydney. How, where and what we eat is the result of complex interactions between various factors, actors and social forces operating across scales (international, regional, city and neighbourhood). However, knowledge of these food systems and their operations is hampered by dominant policy approaches that silo the study of particular components, obscuring the broader intersectional social dynamics that delimit healthy and sustainable food systems.

This project aims to engage residents, food producers and retailers, government and civil society partners in developing participatory food planning policies to ensure Sydney’s food future.
