Digital repository metadata management: Research data collections

This discussion document suggests an approach to defining service requirements for managing the metadata of collections of research data submitted to the Library's repository. It includes example management options and a discussion of benefits and issues. As a general guide, it recommends the creation of DC records as abstractions of source metadata records, and that the more granular native metadata records be submitted as accompanying digital object bit-streams.

The document was submitted to the Library for consideration and the recommended option accepted. It also formed the basis of a journal article titled "Research data and repository metadata. Policy and technical issues at the University of Sydney Library".
