The SCFS aims to attract the best graduate students from around the world to pursue research in a co-operative and collaborative research environment.
The SCFS is committed to creativity and discovery in methodology and research. The centre unites world class researchers with interests in and around history and philosophy of science and medicine to pursue genuine interdisciplinary research in these areas by fostering collaborations between humanities researchers and scientists.
The centre provides regular seminars, working groups, and collaborative “lab-style” supervision offering a team-oriented research environment for students.
Members of the Department of Philosophy and the Sydney Centre for the Foundations of Science hold major research grants in the areas of philosophy of biology, decision theory, philosophy of language, and philosophy of physics. Extra funding of up to $7,000 per annum (tax free) on top of the usual PhD scholarships is available for selected students working on suitable projects in these areas.
