Getting off to a good start
The E12 scheme makes your path to uni easier, before HSC exams start. E12 helps you get into uni and also gives you a good start once you’re here.
E12 on campus accommodation at Sydney
Moving out and starting university can be daunting, which is why living on campus at college (with full board, pastoral care and academic assistance) can make the transition much easier. There are eight colleges at the University of Sydney, each with their own culture and atmosphere:
- International House
- St. Paul’s College
- Sancta Sophia College
- St. John’s College
- St. Andrew’s College
- Wesley College
- Women’s College
For more information about the colleges, visit our Student colleges page
This year, the colleges at the University of Sydney have made it easier for E12 students to apply. Some of the colleges have waived application fees for E12 candidates whilst others have specific and generous scholarships for successful E12 students. All of the University of Sydney colleges have scholarships and financial support programs in place for eligible students and are willing to work flexibly with applicants.
Application deadlines vary between colleges, but most close in early December.
It is very important that you advise the colleges in your application (or via a separate email) that you are an E12 student.

E12 is for domestic NSW HSC students who are from a financially disadvantaged background and/or are attending a government identified 'low socioeconomic' high school, see eligibility criteria.
E12 eases the financial pressure of studying, through a first-year scholarship, and gives you plenty of enrolment, orientation and other support throughout the first year.
Successful E12 applicants will receive:
- an early conditional offer of a place, before final HSC exams start
a formal UAC offer in the early January offer round (if their ATAR meets the E12 cut-offs)
- a $5000 first-year scholarship
- support through the transition from school to the University, including a guided enrolment process, orientation, mentoring and further assistance
- an Apple iPad to assist them in their studies
- a University of Sydney Union Access card that gives discounts on and off the campus with major retailers, and access to more than 200 clubs and societies.
- additional accommodation scholarships available to successful E12 students
Some faculties offer additional scholarships to E12 recipients beyond their first year at university.
Students may also have access to paid internships with business and corporate partners as part of their degree, giving them an invaluable start on their career path.
