This course will equip you with the skills to become a professional artist and practise in a wide range of creative careers, including as a photographer, painter, sculptor, printmaker, art curator, video and filmmaker, arts writer, digital media artist, object designer and animator. In this degree you can major in painting, photomedia, screen arts, sculpture (including ceramics and glass), printmedia, jewellery and object, and critical studies.

In assessing your portfolio, we will look at your potential for creative and skill development and evidence of resolved ideas.

Bachelor of Music (Composition)

Our Bachelor of Music is a four-year specialist program and you can major in performance, composition or music education.

In Composition, you can study both traditional and electro-acoustic music, including sound art, digital music and computer music with internationally regarded composers.

Bachelor of Music Studies

The Bachelor of Music Studies, based at the Arts Music Unit on the University's Camperdown campus, produces broadly educated musicians who can apply their knowledge and skills in various music and arts-related contexts and professions. You can focus on contemporary music practice, performance, composition, or musicology, together with core music skills and various arts electives. All students of the Bachelor of Music Studies complete a principal study in an instrument, voice (classical or jazz), composition, contemporary music or musicology. The core units of study are in music skills, analysis, history and culture, performance, and teaching music, but the course is structured to allow you the flexibility to pursue a course of study in a combination of musical and non-musical disciplines.

Bachelor of Engineering Honours and Bachelor of Music Studies

This five-year combined degree provides you with an opportunity to pursue your passions in both the technical and artistic arenas. This unique program allows you to explore the synergies between the rule-based domains of music and engineering, bringing together your musical creativity with your creative thinking skills.

As a graduate from this combined degree program, you will be uniquely qualified with a distinctive skill set and the ability to apply your knowledge to problem solve in creative ways. Those with significant musical talent will have the ability to pursue this passion at a tertiary level whilst also gaining a professional engineering qualification.

You will study the Bachelor of Music with the University's Sydney Conservatorium of Music, the nation's premier tertiary music institution. Their degree options underscore four key areas: performance, composition, contemporary music practice and musicology.

The Bachelor of Engineering Honours program offers a wide variety of engineering disciplines to choose from, including aeronautical, space, mechanical, mechatronic, biomedical, chemical and biomolecular, civil, electrical, power and software.

Mathematics (not General), or equivalent IB subject.

Admission to this course will also require the applicant to complete a music skills test or jazz aptitude test and to meet criteria for their chosen principal study:

a) Composition: submission of at least three compositions in different performance media and to attend an interview;

b) Contemporary Music Practice: submission of a portfolio for pre-assessment, and if successful, attend an interview;

c) Musicology: presentation of an example of recent written work and attendance at an interview; or

c) Performance: undertaking of a practical audition in the nominated instrument or in voice.
