Welcome and orientation
As an international student, we strongly encourage you to attend as many orientation and welcome sessions as you can.
The orientation program for international students includes:
- an official University Welcome in the Great Hall
- International Student Arrival Information Sessions
- ‘New to Sydney’ presentation about accommodation services
- campus tours
- free Welcome to Sydney party.
These activities are followed by the full range of orientation programs, academic skills seminars and faculty welcomes, where international students and new local students discover and explore campus together. This is a great opportunity to make some new friends before class starts.
You'll find full details of activities and workshops on the Orientation website.
The University Welcome
This is a formal celebration to celebrate your arrival at the University of Sydney. Held in the majestic Great Hall, this event features an Australian Aboriginal Dance and gives you the opportunity to meet other new students over morning tea.
International Student Arrival Information Sessions
These sessions will provide you with essential information upon your arrival to Sydney. You'll find out more about life on campus, visa requirements, enrolment procedures, and how to get started with your studies.
At these sessions we will have a panel of staff from the Library, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) services, Learning Centre, International Student Office, Student Centre and student support services. They will tell you about available resources and answer any questions you have about study and life in Sydney.
You need to attend just ONE of these sessions. Visit the International Student Orientation page for more information.
