Australia Awards

Australia Awards consist of the Australia Awards Scholarships (AAS), Australia Awards Pacific Scholarships, and Australia Awards Fellowships. These are long term training scholarships open to students from countries with which Australia has a development partnership.

The University of Sydney has a contract with the Australia's government to administer the Australia Awards Scholarships (AAS). It is the responsibility of the Australia Awards Unit in the International Services Office to manage this contract and monitor and assist our Australia Awards students on campus.

Australia Awards Scholarships

Australia Awards Scholarships (AAS) are a highly-valued form of development cooperation between Australia and partner countries with which Australia has a bilateral aid program. AAS provide partner countries with the opportunity to strengthen its human resource capacity through offering scholarships to individuals within key institutions, to undertake tertiary studies in Australia in areas relevant to the development needs of the country.

Scholarships are primarily for postgraduate study, however a limited number of undergraduate scholarships are available in specific countries. Applicants for AAS must satisfy both the general eligibility criteria and specific criteria established for each country. For further information regarding eligibility criteria and AAS scholarship benefits, please visit the Australia Awards Scholarships website.

Those wishing to apply for the AAS program should contact the Australia Award Post in their home country.

Australia Awards Fellowships

Australia Awards Fellowships aim to develop leadership, address priority regional development issues, and build partnerships and links between Australian organisations and their partner organisations in developing countries in the Asia-Pacific region, Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa and the Middle East.

Australia Awards Fellowships do not lead to academic qualifications. Instead, they are designed to provide short term opportunities for study, research and professional attachment programs in Australia, delivered by Australian organisations, to nominated fellows from eligible countries.

For more information on the AAF application process, eligible countries, conditions and entitlements, please visit the Australia Awards Fellowships website.

Australia Awards Pacific Scholarships

Australia Awards Pacific Scholarships provide opportunities to people from some developing countries to study at selected education institutions outside Australia. The purpose of the scholarships is for people to gain knowledge and skills which will help the development of their home country.
