University of Sydney Union
The union will provide free live entertainment throughout the day, including bands, DJs and special performances. They’ll also be showcasing everything they offer to enrich your uni experience, including clubs and societies, volunteering options, the Student Leadership Program, discounted food, entertainment and shopping, and much more.
The union also runs Orientation Week, so drop in and find out what they have in store for you this year.

Clubs and Societies
Founded in the historical year of 2012, the Acappelicans are a 10-strong, mixed a cappella group featuring arrangements by Chris Dendle. They dazzle audiences with a range of covers from genres including pop and jazz, musical theatre, rock, and even some Disney! The Acappelicans have obliterated two consecutive seasons at the Sydney Fringe Festival, joined forces with the USYD Jazzsoc big band (SOUL) and enlivened formal events with sparkling harmonies and catchy tunes. Their debut album will be released soon!
Society of Creative Anachronism
The College of St Ursula at the University of Sydney is a small group within The Society for Creative Anachronism, an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe and some connected territories. Members, dressed in clothing of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, attend events which feature tournaments, royal courts, feasts, dancing, various classes & workshops, and more.
MADSOC welcomes dancers of all levels. Weekly on-campus classes include styles such as Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Latin, Tap, Hip Hop and Zumba. Taught by students, classes give students & teachers the opportunity to practice in a friendly and welcoming environment. Join in their inter-society and social events: dinners, flashmobs, the Performing Arts Ball, the Verge Festival, and outings to various dance classes and shows in Sydney.
Sydney University Musical Society
Founded in 1878, Sydney University Musical Society is the one of the oldest secular choirs in Australia. It has acquired an enviable reputation in the Sydney music scene, and has been regularly invited to perform with Sydney’s principal professional choirs. SUMS combines its musical achievements with agreat social atmosphere,with lots of organised and informal social events, and a proud 'no-audition' policy dating back to the first days of the society.
Sydney University Taekwondo Club (SUTC)
Whether you are seeking an exciting way of doing fitness or wanting to challenge yourself to learn one of the most well-known martial arts (it’s even in the Olympics!), SUTC provides an opportunity to learn taekwondo with a club supporting them all the way. Classes teach kicking, sparring, self-defence and the core traditional aspects of Taekwondo such as spirit, focusing on improving an individual's health and fitness while learning in a fun, safe and social environment.
Sydney University Wind Orchestra
SUWO is an award winning symphonic wind orchestra that performs a wide repertoire, from classics to popular music and jazz. The band is very active, giving regular concerts, performing on tour and taking part in contests throughout the year, including the NSW State Band Championships, where they placed 1st in the Open B Grade Concert Band section in 2011 and 2nd in 2012. SUWO prides itself on its musical excellence, but also on its friendly, social environment.
