The University of Sydney offers the largest selection of units of study (subjects) in Australia to Study Abroad and Exchange students. You’re spoilt for choice!
Our units are widely accepted overseas, but we encourage you to check with your home institution to confirm what credit will be given for the units you complete.
Some of our units of study retain their popularity from year to year, such as the Study Abroad General Electives which provide hands-on experiential learning in an Australian cultural context.
We also offer suggested study themes to help you find your focus at Sydney such as Australian Studies, Indigenous Studies, Sustainability and Environmental Studies, to name a few.
Most undergraduate Study Abroad and Exchange students select 1000-3000 level units in areas that they have already studied at their home institution. Qualified students may enrol in postgraduate coursework (usually 5000+ level). Postgraduate research students are also welcome.
The University of Sydney's unique Study Abroad Internship Program provides you with the opportunity to expand your perspective and enhance your skills and confidence by undertaking a credit-bearing Study Abroad Internship unit of study (6 credit points) through one of our many industry and research partners. This unit of study is normally taken alongside 3 other coursework units of study to make up a full-time semester course load.
Internship areas include advertising, environmental sciences, film and television, marketing, not for profit, to name just a few. Undergraduate research placements are also available.
Through a rigorous academic curriculum and 120 hours (15 days) placement, you’ll have the chance to:
- become familiar with Australia’s workplace culture
- apply your learning in real-life situations
