Congratulations on being offered a place at the University of Sydney. Now that you have accepted your offer, you need to organise an Australian student visa, and plan for your arrival in Australia. You can find more information about pre-arrival and pre-arrival preparations below:
To take the hassle out of organising your own social calendar, Sydney Abroad organises social events during semester. These can be found on the University's calendar by searching for events Presented by: International Students Office or check out the list of upcoming events below!
Invitations with booking instructions (where required) are emailed or posted on our Facebook Group for students who arrived this semester. If you did not receive your invitation, email for more information. Share the fun with us!

To help you settle into your semester at the University, we recommend you plan to arrive in time for the 2015 March Semester Sydney Abroad Orientation.
Attendence of one Meet and Greet Session (10am and 11am daily 16-20 February) is recommended, but non-essential. The full day Welcome and Enrolment Advising session on Monday, 23 February 2015 is compulsary.
Social events will also run throughout this period as detailed below, including the University of Sydney Union's OWeek activities held from Wednesday 25 to Friday 27 February 2015.
Monday 16 to Friday 20 February 2015
What: Meet and Greet Session - Attend only one of these sessions (recommended)
Day: Daily Monday 16 to Friday 20 February
Time: 10am - 11am
Where: Merewether Rm 131 LT1, Darlington Campus
Purpose: These sessions will provide you with practical information to help you get settled in Sydney, and ensure your first few weeks run as smoothly as possible. You will also have the chance to meet some Sydney students who have been on exchange and who will understand what you might be going through on arrival in your host country.
After the Meet and Greet Session on the following days, you are invited to join the following optional sessions. Dates have yet to be confirmed.
What: Campus Tour by the University of Sydney Union (USU) (optional)
What: New to Sydney - Accommodation Information Session (optional)
Monday 23 February 2015
What: Welcome to the University - (compulsary)
When: 10am - 12pm
Where: The Great Hall, The Quadrangle, Camperdown Campus
Purpose: This is an official welcome to the University and introduction to key services and information about student life.
The welcome will be followed by refreshments/light lunch in the lawn area inside The Quadrangle.
What: Enrolment Advising Sessions
When: 1pm - 4pm
Where: Eastern Avenue Auditorium, Camperdown Campus
Purpose: You will find out all you need to know about your enrolment, how to add and drop units of study, timetabling and other important academic matters and social events.
Friday 20 to Sunday 22 February 2015 (tentative)
Sydney Abroad offers a range of pre-semester trips to help you to meet other international students and to explore Sydney and its beautiful surrounds.
What: Sydney Uni Surf Weekend by Surf Camp Australia
When: Friday 20 – Sunday 22 February 2015 (2 nights)

What: Orientation Escape to Hunter Valley and Port Stephens by Extreme Adventures
When: Saturday 21 – Sunday 22 February 2015 (1 night)
Price: approx. AUD$300 – includes tour guides, accommodation, transport, most meals, Australian Reptile Park entry, wine tour, sand boarding, beer brewery tour, dolphin watching cruise, shark and sting ray feeding and more!

Social events will also be organised by the University of Sydney Union (USU) and Sydney Uni Sport and Fitness (SUSF). Details to be advised once available.
What: AFL Activities and BBQ Lunch
All Sydney Abroad students are invited and encouraged to join the exciting AFL sports activities that will take place at The Square. A free BBQ lunch will be provided by Sydney Uni Sport and Fitness (SUSF) during the festivities.
What: Free Sydney Day Trips - free trip to Darling Harbour, The Rocks or Manly
When Tuesday 24 February, 11.15am
Where: Darling Harbour, The Rocks or Manly
Join other new students and get to know some of Sydney’s most famous attractions on a free day trip! The USU runs tours to Manly Beach, The Rocks and Darling Harbour, so choose your favourite destination and register online. Each tour will take approximately 3-4 hours and you must register prior to attending the trip to secure your seat.
What: Welcome to Sydney Party!
When: Tuesday 24 February 2015, 7pm
Where: Manning Bar, Manning Road, Camperdown Campus
Get excited for the Welcome to Sydney Party, a fun night with free food, a free drink for ACCESS members and heaps of prizes to give away! This is a perfect opportunity to meet new friends from Sydney and around the world before the semester starts, so come along for a taste of uni life! Please remember to bring your passport for identification.

What: OWeek 2015
When: Wednesday 25 - Friday 27 February, all day
Where: University of Sydney, Camperdown Campus
The University of Sydney Union’s annual orientation festival is your introduction to uni life, giving you a taste of all our clubs and societies, new friends, free food, events and parties.
In 2015, OWeek is going ‘Back to the Future’ with an epic 3 days of events including live music, comedy, dance performances, parties and debates.
This year, the OWeek line up is bigger and better than ever. DJ TENZIN kicks off the ‘Back to 1985’ opening night party at Manning Bar, Mel Buttle headlines the wom*n’s comedy debate and Aussie hip-hop legend ALLDAY finishes the festivities off on the final band night at Manning Bar.
The USU also organises a range of activities for International students during OWeek to introduce you to the University of Sydney community.
Make sure you also visit the International Student Lounge during the year for free computer access, pool tables, locker hire and friendly staff to answer any of your questions.
Each semester, Sydney Abroad coordinates the Mates Abroad Club, a social mentoring program, designed to help you build social networks, engage with local students, adjust to life in Australia and make the most out of your semester abroad.
In the past we have organised Koala Breakfasts, bushwalking in the Royal National Park, trivia evenings, pub nights, yum cha, harbour cruises, fancy dress parties, concerts, sports events, fairs, dinner parties, barbeques, guided tours, shopping, and fundraising events.
You will receive your personal invitation to join the Mates Abroad Club Facebook Group and start connecting with other students before you arrive in Australia.
