Our research degrees have two purposes
The first is for you to prepare a substantial piece of work that represents a significant contribution to a particular field of study. The second is to train you in general research methodology and equip you with transferable research skills to pursue an academic career or take into a career in industry, business or elsewhere.

Just to give you two examples, researchers from our Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease Laboratory have achieved a major breakthrough by finding the causes of Alzheimer’s disease at a cellular level, identifying a potential therapy as a result. Meanwhile, our Capital Markets Cooperative Research Centre supports a network of PhD students based at leading stock exchanges and financial regulators around the world to examine the causes of the global financial crisis and ensure similar problems don’t occur in the future.
