Offers, enrolment and deferment of enrolment
Offers
You will be notified by the Universities Admissions Centre if the University has made you an offer of admission. The UAC Guide and UAC Mid-Year Supplement contain detailed information about the offer process, including when offers are made.
March Semester intake
For the March Semester intake, which is the main intake each year, there are a number of offer rounds. The University makes most of its offers to domestic students in the Main Round, which occurs in mid-January. A much smaller number of offers are usually made in the later offer rounds.
Applicants who receive an offer in these rounds must attend an enrolment session which is usually within a few days of the offer date. Classes in March Semester usually start at the beginning of March.
July Semester intake
For the July Semester intake there are two offer rounds, and the University usually makes its offers in the second round. Successful applicants enrol by attending an enrolment session in person, which is normally early in July. Teaching in July Semester usually commences at the end of July.
Conditions
Please make sure that you provide correct and complete information throughout the application process. Your offer can be revoked by the University if the information you have provided is not accurate and complete. Offers of admission are made for a particular intake, and cannot be taken up after that intake. The sole exception is for applicants who apply for, and are granted, a deferment of enrolment (see below).
Enrolment
Successful applicants will receive instructions about the enrolment process with their offer letters from UAC. All students will be required to enrol in person, shortly after the offer is made.
The period between being made an offer and your enrolment session can be as short as one or two days, and it is very important that you be ready to attend this session. You will be designated a particular enrolment period by the University, and if you do not attend that enrolment session your offer of admission may lapse.
Enrolment does not need to be completed by the enrolling student. Students who are unable to attend their session can send a proxy instead.
Your questions about the enrolment process, including those about making alternative enrolment arrangements, should be directed to the faculty which offers the course for which you have been made an offer.
Deferment of enrolment
Applicants who are made an offer of admission through UAC at the beginning of the year can apply to defer their enrolment. Deferment is not available to applicants who are admitted in July Semester.
Please note that if you are already a student of the University, and you wish to take some time off from a degree in which you are currently enrolled, you should contact your faculty for assistance.
UAC applicants who have been granted a deferment are assured of a place at the end of their deferment period, even if entry standards rise, so long as the deferred course is still offered through UAC. When a course is cancelled, the University will attempt to place any students with deferments in cancelled courses into other courses which are as similar as possible.
You would apply for deferment by using the University’s website to make an online application. Detailed information about how to apply for deferment will be made available to you when you receive your offer letter from UAC.
While anyone can apply for a deferment of enrolment, the University’s policy normally only allows applicants who have completed the current year NSW HSC or an equivalent current year secondary qualification to have their application approved.
Your application for deferment may be approved, even if you are not a current school-leaver, if you can demonstrate that you have suffered an extreme and unpredictable change of circumstance since you applied for admission with UAC. You would need to be able to provide documentary evidence of your circumstances for such an application to be approved.
Deferred applicants must reapply through UAC in August or September to take up their offers in the following year.
Deferment is normally for a period of one year only. If you have any questions about whether you could be granted a deferment for a shorter or longer period of time, please contact the .
You can find further information about the University’s deferment policy in the UAC Guide and on the Deferment FAQs page.
