Special entry schemes

We encourage you to consider all the options for entry to the University of Sydney, beyond your ATAR. Our special entry pathways include:

Flexible Entry

What is it?
It is designed to assist applicants who just miss out on the marks needed to get into their preferred course, but do well in courses relevant to their intended degree.

Who is it for?
You, if your ATAR is up to five points below the cut-off for some courses.

How do you apply?
Some courses assess you automatically, while others require an application separate to the UAC process. Our Pathways website tells you what the application process is for your specific course/s.

Broadway Scheme

What is it?
The University allocates approximately 500 new student places for Broadway applicants. Eligible applicants receive concessions of up to five ATAR points.

Who is it for?
Applicants who have experienced long-term educational disadvantage, such as financial or medical difficulty. You must demonstrate that your educational performance during Year 11 and/or Year 12 has been seriously affected by circumstances beyond your control.

How do you apply?
Applications for the Broadway Scheme are made through the Universities Admissions Centre’s Educational Access Scheme (EAS).

Cadigal Program

What is it and who is it for?
The Cadigal Program is an access and support program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants who fall into the following two categories:

  • HSC applicants (if you have completed the NSW HSC or equivalent and are under 21 as at 31 March 2012)
  • Mature-age applicants (if you are over 21)

You need to submit an application through UAC and ensure you:
a. nominate as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent
b. choose NO for Alternative Entry Program.

Then complete and return a Cadigal Program application form and supporting documents to Student Support Services or Yooroang Garang (applications have now closed for 2012 study).

Don't forget to include confirmation of your Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent

HSC applicants will be assessed for admission on the basis of their ATAR, as well as individual scores in their HSC, school and community references, work experience and sporting achievements etc. No interview is required.

Mature-age applicants are considered on a number of selection criteria, including educational background, life and/or employment experiences and demonstrated motivation and interest for undertaking the course. Mature-age applicants must also attend an assessment and interview.

Mature-age Students Entry Scheme

What is it and who is it for?
Each year the University of Sydney provides undergraduate places for mature-age entrants through its Mature-Age Entry Scheme. The scheme is designed to provide university access to people over the age of 21 who did not start tertiary study straight from school.

How do you apply?
You need to apply through the UAC. For further information, please contact the Admissions Office or download a brochure on the scheme.

Elite Athlete and Performers Scheme

What is it and who is it for?
Applicants who are able to demonstrate that they are elite athletes or performers, and have had training, competitive and/or practice commitments that have significantly affected their results.

How do you apply?
In addition to submitting your UAC application, you must complete an application form and supporting documentation. The closing date is 28 October 2011.

Rural Entry Scheme

What is it and who is it for?
A scheme for applicants who are from rural areas whose ATAR is up to five points below the normal entry standard for their course of choice. Only two faculties within the University offer the Rural Entry Scheme: Faculty of Pharmacy and Faculty of Veterinary Science.

How do you apply?
