Follow your interests in a different way. Our shared pool of majors may give you the flexibility to study your desired major in a different course.

Complete the first year of a related course with a lower ATAR then apply to transfer into your preferred course. If the grades from your first year are better than your ATAR, you’ll be assessed for admission based on them. Also, if the units of study from your first year are relevant to your new degree, you can apply for them to be credited towards that course.

For some of our courses, you can apply for a graduate entry into postgraduate coursework, such as a master's degree, after you have completed your undergraduate degree.

Note: this pathway is only available for Semester 1 undergraduate entry.

Our graduate entry courses provide an option to gain a professional qualification in competitive areas such as dentistry, medicine, law, physiotherapy and veterinary medicine, by applying for a postgraduate degree after completing an undergraduate degree.

For example, if you do not receive the ATAR (or equivalent) for admission to undergraduate law, you can complete a degree from another discipline and then apply for admission to the Juris Doctor. Graduate entry is competitive and depending on the degree, admission criteria may include a minimum GPA or WAM in your bachelor’s degree, successful completion of prerequisite study, satisfactory performance in an admissions test, relevant work experience and more.

Browse our postgraduate courses for specific course details.

The Mature-age Entry Scheme is an entry pathway for domestic applicants over the age of 21 who do not already hold a tertiary qualification that we recognise for entry or who did not receive an ATAR or equivalent, or who received an ATAR or equivalent below 70.

If you don’t get into the course you want in your first year, you may be eligible to reapply after you complete one year of full-time study in a bachelor’s degree at the University of Sydney or another tertiary institution.

Frequently asked questions

You are a domestic student if you are an Australian or New Zealand citizen (including dual citizens), a permanent resident of Australia or a holder of a permanent Australian humanitarian visa or a Pacific Engagement visa. You are an international student if you do not meet the above domestic student criteria.

All entry schemes are for entry into eligible undergraduate courses only unless otherwise stated.

From Semester 1 2025, you can combine your adjustment factors from two eligible entry schemes up to a maximum of 10 adjustment factors.

Some competitive courses have a maximum number of allowable adjustments that is lower than the 10 potential adjustments you could receive from combining two eligible schemes. Combining adjustment factors does not override any course exclusions from schemes or maximum number of allowable adjustments at a course level across schemes. For example, you could receive 5 adjustments for one course from the Academic Excellence Scheme and 5 adjustments from the Educational Access Scheme for the same course. If the maximum number of allowable adjustments for that course is 8, you will receive 8 adjustments.

Eligible entry schemes are the Educational Access Scheme, Academic Excellence Scheme, and Elite Athletes and Performers Scheme. All other schemes are excluded.

You will be awarded the adjustment factors from the two schemes that are of highest benefit to you.

2025 course and entry requirements will be finalised in the coming months.

A current school leaver means you are applying for your course with the University during your final year of secondary education, i.e., Year 12 or equivalent.
