Specific information for Indigenous students

For more than 30 years Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education programs have been offered by the University of Sydney. During this time schools, units and centres have been established to provide education, support and training for Indigenous Australian students enrolled across all faculties and departments of the University.

Cadigal Alternative Entry Program

Current student Rebecca Raymond

The Cadigal Alternative Entry Program is an admission program specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander school leavers or mature age applicants over 21 years of age.

Individual subject marks may be considered along with the ATAR. It is possible for students to undertake a reduced load in their first years of undergraduate study, and this can be supported by an academic skills program.

Scholarships

There are two types of scholarships offered by the University specifically to Indigenous Australian students. You can find out more about these and other available scholarships at the Scholarships Office website.

Student Support

Student Support services offer ongoing support and assistance to Indigenous students through the Cadigal Alternative Entry Program and the Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS). For more information regarding student support services, please visit the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student Support page.

The Koori Centre, based on the Camperdown campus, provides a broad range of facilities and services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students studying in all faculties and courses across the University. Yooroang Garang on the Cumberland Campus offers a range of educational and health courses, services and facilities for Indigenous students studying in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The Commonwealth Government provides financial support through the Abstudy scheme, and Indigenous students can also access the wide range of support services available to all students, such as counselling, accommodation, childcare and financial assistance.
