Guide to making a Study Abroad or Student Exchange application
Please read this guide before filling in the application form, and make sure you meet the eligibility requirements.
If you are an Australian citizen, permanent resident of Australia or New Zealand citizen, you must NOT use this form unless you have been selected by your home university as an exchange student.
This application is not an enrolment form. It does not guarantee that you will be admitted to the Study Abroad and Student Exchange Programs. Admission to the University of Sydney is done on a competitive basis.
If you are an exchange student selected by your home university to complete this application, you must include an official letter of nomination from your home institution. You will not be accepted under the Exchange Program unless your home institution has a current Exchange Agreement with the University of Sydney. Check our exchange partners to see if your home institution is listed.

- Download the Study Abroad and Student Exchange application form (in Adobe Acrobat .pdf). If you do not have a copy of Acrobat Reader, you can download a free copy from Adobe.

We cannot consider your application if it is incomplete or unable to be read.
Submission Requirements and Certification Guidelines
It is very important that applications are accurate and complete. All supporting documents submitted to the University of Sydney must either be original documents or certified copies of original documents. If photocopies, scans or faxed copies are submitted, it is essential that the original versions of these documents have been sighted by an appropriate officer and that they are properly certified.
Translations are required for all documents which are in languages other than English. Where an official academic transcript is normally issued in a language other than English, this version in the original language must be submitted in addition to the translated, certified version.
All certifications must follow the procedures below and appear on each page of the document:
- Official stamp of the certifying organisation (the current home university is sufficient);
- Full name (clearly printed) of the certifying officer;
- Signature of the certifying officer;
- The words "true copy of original" or "certified copy"; and
- Date of certification.
Supporting documents include academic records/transcripts, research proposals (postgraduate research applicants only), evidence of scholarship/sponsorship support and evidence of English Language Proficiency.
Additional academic information, such as portfolios, audition tapes or copies of course syllabi may be required. A full list of requirements is included in the Application Form.
Disability information
If you have a disability you could be eligible for services offered by the University of Sydney for students with a disability. If you want this assistance, it is important that you apply for it as soon as you can, preferably before you commence study. Disability Services available in Australia may differ from those offered in your home country, so it is important for us to know what support services you require and to inform you of the support services we can offer. A Disability Services Officer can help you with your registration. Please contact the Disability Services at www.usyd.edu.au/disability.
