Education and Social Work
The Faculty of Education and Social Work offers a new program of study specifically designed to suit the needs and interests of Study Abroad students at the University of Sydney. Each of the four recommended units in the program (listed below) examines distinct aspects of Australian culture with a focus on children and young people’s learning and development. While all units of study in the program are concerned with learning, it is viewed from a broad perspective that goes well beyond the schools and classrooms to include sport, leisure, entertainment and other cultural activities.
These units are designed to be accessible and of interest to international students from a wide range of majors other than education. The ways in which units of study in this program are taught is also distinctive. Based on sound contemporary learning theory, learning and assessment is structured around students’ first hand experiences of Australian cultural and educational practices provided by field trips to relevant sites.
Through the integration of lectures, readings, field trips and assessment, international students will gain valuable insights into, and understanding of, Australian culture and society.
