Huo dao lao, xue dao lao - Forever Learning

The University of Sydney Medical Program and Shanghai Jiao Tong Medical School are working in partnership to explore how the educational principles of problem-based learning and curriculum integration can be translated to the Chinese medical education context.

Student experience
Medical Student Exchange

Sydney Medical School and the Shanghai Jiao Tong Medical School exchange 8 medical students each year to enhance mutual understanding of health issues and health systems. Outgoing students undertake their placement at the Renji Hospital, Shanghai. Incoming students participate in specialty rotations or in the respiratory block training depending on their year of training.

Sydney Medical School and the Fudan University Medical School exchange 4 medical students each year to enhance mutual understanding of health issues and health systems. Outgoing students undertake their placement at either Huashan or Zhongshan Hospital, Shanghai. Incoming students participate in specialty rotations in one of our clinical schools.

Sydney Medical School and Peking University Health Science Centre exchange 4 medical students each year to enhance mutual understanding of health issues and health systems. Outgoing students undertake their placement at one of the many hospitals in Beijing affiliated to Peking University.

Medical Student International Research Experience

The George Institute - China provides an opportunity for two Sydney Medical school students undertaking the MBBS to undertake a research placement based at the George Institute Beijing offices for up to 8 weeks. During this part of the elective placement, students will be able to work with local researchers on one of the Institute’s research projects, which include clinical trials in cardiovascular disease and injury prevention.

PhD candidate training

Each year the various disciplines and research institutes of the University of Sydney receive PhD candidates from China’s best universities for a 12-month international research training experience.
