Success in Australia-China Council Grant
The Faculty of Health Science, in collaboration with the Sydney Medical School has been awarded a prestigious Australian China Council Grant.
The grant awarded will assist with the development and delivery of a joint research symposium and collaboration discussion focussed on the field of sports medicine between the University of Sydney, Peking University, Peking University Sports Medicine Institute and their affiliated hospitals. The joint symposium will aim to establish long-term sustainable relationships and the identification of mutual research and educational interests. This project is therefore an initiative that is relevant to the ACC Strategic Plan (2008-2011). The success is particularly notable as the University of Sydney submitted one of the only 24 successful applications from a pool of 300.
This joint research symposium will work towards the mission, goals and objectives of the Australia-China Council. Specifically, the research symposium aims to:
- develop and strengthen mutual research interests and expertise in the field of 'education and science' particularly in aspects of sports medicine;
- foster perceptions in China of the Faculty of Health Science, University of Sydney as a prime site for scientifically and educationally advanced knowledge and research;
- foster linkages between the University of Sydney and Peking University Sports Medicine Institute (PUSMI) with a view to developing long-term and sustainable education and research linkages and activities; and,
- foster people-to-people relationships resulting in fruitful research and educational relationships.
The Faculty of Health Science participation was led by Professor Patrick Brennan, Associate Dean International Research Development and from Sydney Medical School by Ms Louise Freckelton, Manager International Relations with the Office for Global Health.
