Shanghai PhD Summer School bound
Two Sydney Medical School PhD candidates will represent the University of Sydney at a PhD Summer School conducted by Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
The PhD Summer School will bring together PhD researchers from leading universities across the globe for a one week program. The program will focus around the bioscience areas of cardiovascular disease, tissue engineering, cancer and stem cells. The Summer School consists of a program of lectures by eminent researchers, opportunities for the students to present on their research, visits to Shanghai Jiao Tong’s affiliated laboratories and cultural visits.
Our two representatives are Ms Tessa Barrett who is completing her PhD at the Heart Research Institute with Associate Professor Clare Hawkins. The second representative is Dr Steven Chuan Hao Kao researching at the Asbestos Diseases Research Institute with Associate Professor Janette Vardy.
"The program is extremely generous one. Our partners Shanghai Jiao Tong provides the week long program, airfare and living expenses for the week", says Ms Louise Freckelton, Senior manager – International Relations with the Office for Global Health. "I think our representatives will be impressed by the strength of the biomedical science research being done at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. I hope that this is the beginning of increased PhD student mobility between our two schools."
The PhD Summer School in Shanghai will be held between the 16th and 23rd July 2011 on the campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.
