Outgoing University of Sydney medical students to Chile

Number of places: Up to two University of Sydney students will be nominated to represent the Faculty under this scheme.

Institution: This placement is coordinated by the Institute for Studies in Social and Intercultural Health and Equity (ISSIE), Chile. The program can include a structured course on the socio-cultural determinants of health or purely clinical placements in a range of primary and secondary care facilities in Southern Chile and Northern Chile, urban Santiago, Valparaiso and possibly in primary care centres in Peru and Bolivia. There will be a strong focus on indigenous health and the role of culture in health.

Language: Proficiency in Spanish is desirable. Information on language courses available through the University of Sydney can be found at our Resources page.

Duration: These placements are usually for four weeks duration.

Other: Depending on your preferences, fees will apply and students may choose to arrange their own travel or pay to have it arranged for them by the ISSIE staff. Please read the attached document for more detail.
