Jubilee Concert
The Sydney University Graduate Choir is celebrating its 60th Anniversary with Mendelssohn’s first oratorio St Paul, a musical masterpiece about the life of the apostle Paul, a gem unjustifiably rarely performed. This work was deeply inspired by Bach and Handel, and after hearing it, Robert Schumann praised it as “jewel of the present. ...This freshness, this inextinguishable atmosphere of the instrumentation, ...of the masterly playing with all kinds of forms - not to speak of the art of composition”

Heavenly Schubertiade
This “Heavenly Schubertiade” presents Schubert’s sacred choral music. This music sprang from very personal convictions. The centrepieces of this concert, his second Mass in G, a work he composed as an 18 year old, and his fourth Mass in C, follow Mozart’s examples but with strikingly Schubertian touches and are characterised by an elevated simplicity. A splendidly festive [[i||Magnificat] and several smaller works for choir and orchestra complete this varied concert program.

A Human Requiem
"A truly tremendous piece of art which moves the entire being in a way little else does" wrote Clara Schumann deeply moved in a letter about Brahms’ German Requiem. His requiem focusses on the living and begins with words of comfort to those that mourn. The transition from sadness and anxiety to comfort is a recurring theme throughout the entire work. Brahms admitted "that I would gladly give up the 'German' and simply call it 'human'". His requiem truly speaks to everyone.
