Meet our Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources students

Angela Dennett - PhD

Angela is a PhD student in the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources. After completing her Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, she was involved in a study program in Mexico and was inspired to continue her research as a PhD student.

“I hope that this research will increase the quality of commercial crops and their market value. This could potentially lead to greater contributions of global grain production from marginal agricultural lands, which is essential for meeting the food demands of the growing human population worldwide.”

Ichsani Wheeler - PhD

After completing her undergraduate studies in Land and Water Science, Ichsani went on to work in industry for a few years. But her passion for research drew her back to study at the Faculty as a PhD student. Her research addresses carbon storage and trading, and aims to devise an efficient method for analysing soil carbon and provide a scheme for measuring and monitoring of soil carbon storage at the farm scale.

“Such a scheme would enable the participation of the agricultural industry in the carbon economy as a supplier (and not just a buyer) of carbon credits. Enabling soil carbon to be traded as a viable carbon credit will contribute to the beneficial function of cap-and-trade systems; provide incentive and support for improved land management; as well as generating flow-on support and demand for research, training and development.”
