Developing Supervision

Working with the new Supervision Policy

Academic Board approved the new Supervsion of Higher Degree by Research Students policy in Feburary 2013.

The Graduate Studies Office and Institute for Teaching & Learning will be running a one hour workshop (immediately followed by an optional one hour discussion) as part of the Foundations of Research Supervision course on 5 April 2013.

This workshop is open to both FORS participants and other supervisors, especially postgraduate co-ordinators and associate deans, who wish to familiarise themselves with the new Supervision policy. Register for this free event at Institute of Teaching & Learning.

Transforming doctoral education

Professor George E Walker visited the University of Sydney on Tuesday 1 May 2012 and spoke about the Carnegie Initiative on the Doctorate – a roadmap for bringing a new paradigm to doctoral education. This initiative provides a foundation for understanding the needs and goals of doctoral education. Staff who attended the presentation heard about a range of discipline-specific ideas for enhancing doctoral supervision.

Professor Walker is the Vice President of Research and Graduate Studies at Cleveland State University.
