School of Civil Engineering

The School of Civil Engineering offers the ME with the following majors:
Civil Engineering
Fluids Engineering
Geomechanical Engineering
Structural Engineering
All candidates are required to select a major.
To qualify for the award of the Master of Engineering a candidate must complete 72 credit points, including:
(a) 24 credit points of core units of study as listed in the units of study table;
(b) At least 12 credit points of research units of study in the discipline of the candidate's major;
(c) At least 24 credit points of specialist units of study in the discipline of the student's major as listed in the units of study table; and
(d) A maximum of 12 credit points of elective units of study, subject to the approval of the Dean or the Head of School most associated with the discipline of the student's major;
(e) If advanced standing of 24 credit points is given, the candidate must complete a minimum of 12 credit points core units, a minimum of 18 credit points of specialist units and a minimum of 12 credit points of research units, with 0 credit points of elective units.

6    A Ability to conduct mass and energy balances, and the integration of these concepts to solve 'real' chemical engineering problems. Ability to understand basic principles of physical chemistry, physics and mechanics. Ability to use basic calculus and linear algebra, and carry out such computations using Matlab and MS Excel. Ability to read widely outside of the technical literature and to synthesise arguments based on such literature. Ability to write coherent reports and essays based on information from diverse sources.
