Course resolutions

The course resolutions detailed in this page apply to all courses included in the table below under section 1 (course codes).

These resolutions must be read in conjunction with applicable University By-laws, Rules and policies including (but not limited to) the University of Sydney (Coursework) Rule 2014 (the 'Coursework Rule'), the Coursework Policy 2021 (the 'Coursework Policy'), the Learning and Teaching Policy 2019, the Resolutions of the Faculty, University of Sydney (Student Academic Appeals) Rule 2021, the Academic Integrity Policy 2022 and the Academic Integrity Procedures 2022. 2 Attendance pattern

The attendance pattern for this course is full time or part time according to candidate choice.

3 Master's type

The master's degree in these resolutions is a professional master's course, as defined by the Coursework Policy.

4 Embedded courses in this sequence

(1) The embedded courses in this sequence are:

(a) the Graduate Certificate in Project Management

(b) the Graduate Diploma in Project Management

(c) the Master of Project Management

(2) Providing candidates satisfy the admission requirements for each stage, a candidate may progress to the award of any of the courses in this sequence. Only the longest award completed will be conferred.

5 Admission to candidature

(1) Available places will be offered to qualified applicants in the order in which complete applications are received, according to the following admissions criteria.

(2) Admission to the Graduate Certificate in Project Management requires:

(a) a bachelor's degree in any discipline; or

(b) three years relevant industry experience and certifications (for example, certification from the Project Management Institute) or similar; and

(c) any other minimum standards specified by the School of Project Management.

(3) Admission to the Graduate Diploma in Project Management requires:

(a) a bachelor's degree in any discipline with a minimum of 60 WAM; or

(b) a University of Sydney Graduate Certificate in Project Management with a minimum of 60 WAM; and

(c) any other minimum standards specified by the School of Project Management.

(4) Admission to the Master of Project Management requires:

(a) a bachelor's degree in any discipline with a minimum of 65 WAM; or

(b) an Australian bachelor's degree (with honours), or equivalent qualification; or

(c) a combination of a bachelor's degree and relevant industry experience and certifications; or

(d) a University of Sydney Graduate Diploma/Graduate Certificate in Project Management with a minimum of 65 WAM; and

(e) any other minimum standards specified by the School of Project Management.

(5) For qualifications awarded outside Australia, equivalencies and entry requirements are determined based on the country, institution and qualification.

(6) In exceptional circumstances the Dean may admit applicants without these qualifications who, in the opinion of the Faculty, have qualifications and evidence of experience and achievement sufficient to successfully undertake the award.

6 Requirements for award

(1) The units of study that are required for the courses are set out in Table A for the Graduate Certificate in Project Management / Graduate Diploma of Project Management / Master of Project Management.

(2) To qualify for the award of the Graduate Certificate in Project Management a candidate must complete 24 credit points, including;

(a) 6 credit points of Project Management Technical Core units of study;

(b) 6 credit points of Project Management Strategic units of study; and

(c) 12 credit points of Project Management Leadership units of study.

(3) To qualify for the award of the Graduate Diploma in Project Management a candidate must complete 48 credit points, including:

(a) 18 credit points of Project Management Technical Core units of study;

(b) 12 credit points of Project Management Leadership Core units of study;

(c) 6 credit points of Project Management Strategic Core units of study; and

(d) 12 credit points of Elective units of study, which may include PMGT5862 Introduction to Research in Project Studies.

(4) To qualify for the award of the Master of Project Management, a candidate must complete 72 credit points, including:

(a) 24 credit points of Project Management Technical Core units of study;

(b) 12 credit points of Project Management Leadership Core units of study;

(c) 6 credit points of Project Management Strategic Core units of study;

(d) 30 credit points from either the research pathway or the coursework pathway.

7 Cross-institutional study

Cross-institutional study is not available in these courses except where the University of Sydney has a formal cooperation agreement with another university.

8 Satisfactory progress

Progression is subject to the Coursework Policy. A candidate who has failed to meet these progression rules will be transferred to either the Graduate Diploma or the Graduate Certificate in Project Management, depending on the credit points successfully completed

9 Course transfer

A candidate for the master or graduate diploma may elect to discontinue study and graduate with a shorter award from this embedded sequence, with the approval of the relevant delegated authority, and provided the requirements of the shorter award have been met.

10 Transitional provisions

(1) These resolutions apply to students who commenced their candidature after 1 January, 2023 and students who commenced their candidature prior to 1 January, 2023 who elect to proceed under these resolutions.

(2) Candidates who commenced prior to 1 January, 2023 may complete the requirements in accordance with the resolutions in force at the time of their commencement.
