Biographical details

Gillian Nisbet teaches and researches in the areas of interprofessional learning and work integrated learning within healthcare. Her PhD was on the topic of informal workplace interprofessional learning. It specifically investigated how we might enhance workplace interprofessional learning through capitalising on existing processes and interactions within the hospital workplace.

Gillian has 11 peer reviewed publications and chapters in the area of interprofessional learning, particularly as it applies to the clinical setting. Gillian's research funding has included a grant from the Australian Learning and Teaching Council for the project titled "Developing interprofessional learning and practice capabilities within the Australian health workforce" a proposal for building capacity within the higher education sector. Gillian has over 10 years experience in facilitating student learning on clinical placement.

In her current position with the Work Integrated Learning Unit of the Faculty of Health Sciences, The University of Sydney, Gillian is responsible for the preparation and support of allied health students whilst on clinical placement. Gillian has been an invited speaker at national and international seminars on the topic of interprofessional learning. She was Co-chair of the All-Together Better Health V international interprofessional learning conference held in Sydney in 2010.

Gillian's interest and motivation for teaching and researching in these areas is her belief that through learning from each other, students and health professionals are better placed to meet the challenges and opportunities faced in health, now and in the future.
