Thesis title: Strength training for improved performance in athletes with cerebral palsy: effects on strength, power, motor control and body composition

Supervisors: Ross SANDERS , Che FORNUSEK

Thesis abstract:

This project aims to determine the effects of strength training on athletes with cerebral palsy and the potential to improve sports performance. Identifying timing and magnitude of adaptations to training will aid in better training program design and thus more efficient use of an athlete’s training time. Secondary aims include identification of changes in motor control patterns – another potential mechanism for improved performance – and description of differences in body composition between athletes and sedentary individuals with cerebral palsy. This may result in sports participation being identified as a means of significantly reducing secondary disease risk for people with cerebral palsy.
