Biographical details
Prof Lindy McAllister leads a team of 20 academics and administrative staff in the Work Integrated Learning portfolio of the Faculty of Health Sciences. This team manages student placements in all the faculty courses and engages in innovation, research and scholarship in work integrated learning.
Prof McAllister is recognised nationally and internationally as a leader in preparing graduates for professional practice in speech pathology. She was made a Life Member of speech Pathology Australia for services to higher education, and has been a keynote speaker at national and international conferences speaking to topics in clinical education and supervision. She has received a National Program Award and a Citation from the Australian Learning and Teaching Council for her work in assessment of clinical competence and a Citation from the Carrick Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education for work in developing students’ intercultural competence for practice.
In addition she has undertaken research, and curriculum development and review work with a range of allied health disciplines and in medicine. She has been an invited visiting professor and accreditor in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Kuwait, Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom, assisting with curriculum development, review and accreditation in generic health sciences undergraduate degrees, clinical supervisor development programs, and degrees in speech pathology, audiology and medicine. Prof McAllister has five internationally published books, 23 peer reviewed journal articles, more than 30 book chapters, and 14 published peer-reviewed conference proceedings on topics related to preparation for practice and clinical education. She has a further 37 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters on clinical topics such as brain injury and speech sound disorders. In the last decade, she has delivered more than 40 invited addresses and 26 peer–reviewed conference papers on educational topics and another 50 peer–reviewed conference papers on clinical topics.
Prof McAllister has received more than $1 million in external, competitive research funding for projects in clinical education, supervision, curriculum issues and assessment of student competence. She has also received $0.5 million in external, competitive research funding for projects in clinical topics.
