Biographical details

Dr Maree Milross is a Lecturer with the Discipline of Physiotherapy, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Sydney. She teaches cardiopulmonary physiotherapy in the BAppSc (Physiotherapy) and Master of Physiotherapy programs at the University of Sydney, and is the Honours Coordinator for the Discipline of Physiotherapy. Dr Milross has driven evaluation and re-development of the acute care teaching in the Cardiopulmonary physiotherapy curriculum.

Dr Milross worked as a clinical physiotherapist at St George Hospital (Sydney), Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (Sydney) and the Royal Brompton Hospital (London). Dr Milross actively pursued her interest in cardiopulmonary physiotherapy since graduating as a physiotherapist in 1993. This saw her completing her PhD with the Faculty of Medicine (Sydney University) in 2002 in the area of sleep disordered breathing and non-invasive ventilation in adult cystic fibrosis. Dr Milross’ research pursuits continue in the areas of sleep and respiratory/critical care medicine. Dr Milross supervises higher degree research students in these areas.

Gender equity and diversity in the STEMM fields is an area Dr Milross has both a personal and a professional interest in. Dr Milross is an active member of Sydney University's Science in Australia Gender Equity (SAGE) Self Assessment Team (SAT). The SAGE program is a national pilot program promoting gender equity and gender diversity policies and practices in STEMM (http://www.sciencegenderequity.org.au). The SAT are working toward Sydney University being recognised for its institutional capacity to eliminate gender inequity and commitment to bolster the hiring, promotion and retention of women, while also improving the workplace environment for people of all genders.
