Biographical details
Professor Maria Antoinette Fiatarone Singh is a geriatrician whose research, clinical, and teaching career has focused on the integration of geriatric medicine, exercise physiology, and nutrition as a means to improve quality of life for the aged. She is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine in the USA. She is currently licensed to practice medicine in Massachusetts, USA as well as New South Wales, Australia. Prof Singh has designed and carried out many clinical trials involving frail elders in Australia and the USA, She has published extensively in the areas of ageing, exercise and nutrition, having edited one book, authored over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles, 80 peer-reviewed book chapters and review articles, 150 abstracts, and contributed to numerous lay publications. She serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Gerontology, and is a reviewer for most of the major international internal medicine, physiology, exercise, gerontology, and nutrition journals.Prof Singh’s commitment to teaching and university service is evidenced by her mentorship of students at all levels and role on the Health and Ageing, Honours and Research Committees at the University of Sydney. She has developed several multi-media accredited courses for physicians and other health care professionals for the implementation and management of physical activity programs for older adults in community and residential care settings, which have now been translated into Japanese, German, French, and Spanish for use internationally. She has lectured widely, including invited presentations in Japan, Europe, North America, Scandinavia, and throughout Australia, and has conducted and consulted on clinical and basic science research projects in Canada, America, Germany, Great Britain, France and
