Biographical details
Nicola has been involved in the quantitative analysis of data in biological and medical fields since the start of her research career. Her PhD in quantitative genetics on inbreeding and inbreeding depression in Holstein Friesians involved the analysis of administrative data records from over 2 million dairy cattle in Australia dating back to the 1960s. She has interest in the stochastic simulation of data which she had done to predict inbreeding and other genetic effects on sheep populations from the implementation of the National Scrapie Program while undertaking her post-doctoral work in Scottish Agricultural College, Edinburgh, UK.
Before joining the Faculty of Health Sciences in the University of Sydney, she was involved in the teaching of biostatistics to Masters in Public Health students at the University of New South Wales, as well as undertaking HIV social and behavioural research. She is currently involved in a prevalence study on parents with intellectual disability and their families in Australia using large-scale population surveys and linked administrative data.
Research interests
Statistics particularly in the analysis of large-scale data
Stochastic simulation to predict population-level outcomes of large-scale interventions, policies or programs.
General interest in the use of quantitative techniques to answer questions of interest in fields including genetics, health sciences and public health.
Current projects
A prevalence study on parents with intellectual disability and their children.
