Thesis work

Thesis title: A study of kayaking efficiency during in-lab sprint kayak performance using a fixed and swivel seat

Supervisors: Richard SMITH , Peter SINCLAIR

Thesis abstract:

Investigate the important kayaking variables that contribute to paddling efficiency of kayak paddlers in the flat water 200m and 1000m sprint kayak event using both the traditional fixed and swivel seat. Analysis of biomechanical performance using the kinematic (velocity, acceleration, position) and kinetic (force, torque, power) analysis of the paddlers will be conducted using a kayak simulator in the laboratory. The motion and external forces of the paddlers performing the kayak stroke will be video recorded for three dimensional dynamic analysis.
