ENROLMENT

Correct enrolment is the individual responsibility of each student.

The faculty assumes that those enrolled in the faculty have an understanding of the rules and regulations outlined below as they relate to the particular program being undertaken.

You need to make sure that your enrolment is correct at the census dates. If there’s an error with your enrolment after this time, it will remain on your record, as the Higher Education Support Act 2003 makes it an offence for the University to alter your record after the census dates, other than in clearly defined, exceptional circumstances.

If you’re a Commonwealth-supported or assisted student, you’ll be sent a Commonwealth Assistance Notice electronically within 28 days of a relevant census date. Please check these notices carefully, as it is your final opportunity to correct any errors made by the University.

Deferment of enrolment or GAP year

Deferment of enrolment is closed for the 2013 Academic year.

A person granted admission to an undergraduate course of the faculty and who undertook the NSW Higher School Certificate, or its equivalent, in the preceding year, will be permitted to defer enrolment for a maximum period of one year, upon written application to the Admissions Officer, University of Sydney by the specified date.

Deferment of enrolment will not normally be granted to enable an applicant to undertake another tertiary course.

Deferment of enrolment will not normally be granted to other students, including postgraduate and international students unless there have been extreme and unpredictable changes in circumstances since applying for the course.

Changing your undergraduate degree course

If you wish to move from one bachelor degree course to another, you will need to apply online through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) in August or September for entry in the following year.

All International students, including those who entered the University through UAC, need to contact the International Office for information about changing courses.

If you entered the University from school in NSW, you will know that your ATAR score was most likely the major determinant in gaining a place in your course. Once you commence tertiary study, your performance at university also becomes a factor in determining your eligibility. Many university students applying to change courses are doing so because they were unable to enter their first choice course directly from school. If you undertake a full-time year (or more) of study in a bachelor degree course, your unit-of-study results will largely determine your chances of gaining admission into other bachelor degree courses at the University of Sydney.

For admissions purposes, 48 credit points at the University of Sydney is considered full-time. If you have attempted less than 48 credit points in your course, your university results from that course do not contribute to your potential admission at the University of Sydney, only your ATAR.

Re-enrolment for continuing students

Students continuing into next year will re-enrol on the web via MyUni portal from October of the preceding year of enrolment. Go to MyUni and click on MyAdmin, then select ‘Pre-enrolment.’

Re-enrolment is compulsory and must be completed by the closing dates as indicated above. Failure to enrol by the closing dates may result in late penalties.

Enrolment variations and restrictions

Students should carefully check the statements of enrolment that are posted to the semester address registered with the University.

Variations of enrolment may be made online via the MyUni website or through Student Central by the due date.

Advising the lecturer or the discipline of a change to your enrolment is not sufficient. Students have sometimes found themselves with an unwelcome result of Absent Fail or with an unnecessary HECS liability because they either did not check their enrolment carefully or forgot to advise the University of a new correspondence address. Students are encouraged to check with Student Central without delay if they believe their formal enrolment may not be correct.

Students wishing to withdraw from a unit of study in which they have enrolled and enrol into a new unit of study must do so at Student Central or via MyUni.

The following time restrictions apply:

  • Units can only be added to enrolment up until the end of the second week of each semester.
  • Students wishing to withdraw from some or all units of study may do so by the census dates (31 March for semester 1 and 31 August for semester 2).

The Coursework Rule limits the maximum number of credit points students may take in any given semester. The Faculty does not encourage full time students to exceed the recommended enrolment patterns for its courses.

Except with the permission of the Dean, a student may not enrol in more than 30 credit points in any one semester. All other enrolment restrictions are as defined by the Coursework Rule. Please see our online Policy Register to access this document.

Student card collection

2013 STUDENT CAMPUS CARDS & TRAVEL CONCESSION FOR RE ENROLLING STUDENTS

The 2013 Student Campus Cards will be mailed to your current Australian correspondence address by the end of March 2013. Students who have nominated an overseas address will have their cards held for collection by Student Central at the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Please ensure your correspondence address is kept up-to-date.

Travel concession for local and international student cards

To apply for a travel concession for 2013, eligible local students should of already completed their online declaration on MyUni.

If you have received your Student Card, without your travel concession and you are a full time local student, you may collect your fare concession at Student Central. Please ensure you bring your new 2013 Student Card so that your travel concession sticker can be attached.

International student travel discounts

International students can now purchase discounted MyMulti2 and MyMulti3 public transport tickets from the University. All discounted tickets can be used for travel to and from a place of study as well as recreational travel, providing savings of up to 35 percent.

Visit the Transport for NSW website for more information. View the MyMulti travel map to see which ticket meets your travel needs, based on where you live in Sydney.

Please note that it is not possible to purchase tickets directly from Transport for NSW ticket outlets or railway stations. The University of Sydney must order tickets on your behalf once we confirm you are an enrolled international student.

Once your payment is received and your request is sent to Transport for NSW, the University will confirm collection details and the start date of your ticket. Delivery of tickets may take up to 7 working days. The University of Sydney is not responsible for the late delivery of tickets due to delays at Transport for NSW.
