Discipline of Behavioural and Social Sciences in Health

Where human behaviour and society intersects with healthcare

We study the way that healthcare interacts with social, political and systemic factors, to inform policy, interventions and service approaches that link together relevant knowledge from across health and social sciences

What is behavioural and social science?

The Discipline of Behavioural and Social Sciences in Health studies human behaviour, and society particularly within the context of health services, policy and the social environment. It draws on a range of disciplines including psychology, sociology, policy studies and research methods, and statistics and is focused on thinking holistically and critically about human health.

You will learn to understand the nature of the health problems facing global communities and how to design effective healthcare approaches to serve our increasingly consumer-driven, ageing population.

Our academic staff have expertise in sociology, psychology, education, eHealth, demography, health policy, epidemiology and research methods. We lead the health stream and major for undergraduate students and deliver core units in research methods, psychology and behavioural sciences in undergraduate and postgraduate programs more broadly.
