Careers in exercise and sport science
Students who graduate as an exercise and sport scientist are qualified to work with healthy populations. The career paths followed by graduates are many and varied and depend mostly on the specific interests and aspirations of the individual. Broadly defined, the areas of employment entered by recent graduates include the sport industry, fitness industry, health industry, occupational health and safety, public health, rehabilitation, research and technology, education and medical insurance.
Graduates who go on to gain the qualification of exercise physiologist may work as an exercise scientist as well as an exercise physiologist. Exercise physiologists are qualified to work with populations experiencing illness and chronic disease. Examples of roles include exercise rehabilitation, prevention and management of chronic diseases. They work in places such as hospitals, community centers and clinics.
