Health Informatics



The Health Informatics, Computation and Innovation Lab (HICIL) is carrying out a number of externally funded research projects investigating innovative approaches, techniques and systems for healthcare. These projects include exploring the application of mobile computing, social networking, social media, sensors, and other emerging technologies to improve health and health care.

This research addresses major e-health challenges such as healthy living, preventative healthcare, chronic condition management and prevention, health promotion, early detection, and emergency response.

Career Overview

The role of the health informatics professional is dynamic and involves close liaison with medical, nursing and administrative staff, other health professionals, IT staff and the public.

The health informatics program aims to equip health professionals with vital knowledge and skills in information and computer science, management, health care systems, and research methods.
