A review of the student international placement program was undertaken by the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) in 2009.
In early 2010 the FHS developed new international opportunities for students with the aim to create a more sustainable and meaningful international program with the focus on international health issues.
The outcome of this redevelopment is FHS Abroad. Dr Elaine Ryan is the Director of this initiative, which seeks to provide students with exposure to invaluable international professional experience in a developing country as part of their degree.
These placements are academic rather than clinical units of study.
International Scholarship Opportunity
The Hoc Mai Foundation scholarship is offered annually for FHS students to undertake a clinical placement with the Hoc Mai Foundation in Vietnam. Two scholarships are awarded annually to students in allied health programs at the FHS and are undertaken in November/December. Eligible students will be notified when applications for a Hoc Mai scholarship are being accepted. Depending on the program the student is enrolled in, the Hoc Mai scholarship opportunity may need to be undertaken in addition to the student’s scheduled clinical placements.
