Cadetships

The Australian Government, private industry and business offer cadetships and traineeships that improve the professional employment prospects of Indigenous Australians. They link Indigenous tertiary students with employers in a cadetship arrangement involving benefits such as: paying HECS fees, providing text book allowances, full paid work during semester breaks, reduced rates of pay during study and on-the-job training.

INDIGENOUS CADETSHIP PROGRAMS

NSW Public Sector - Indigenous Cadetship Program

The Indigenous Cadetship Program provides Indigenous students with the opportunity to combine full time university study with part time employment in a NSW Government agency.

Benefits include:

  • a study allowance of $600 per fortnight paid by the agency
  • up to $500 per semester for books and resources
  • a salary for 12 weeks full time work per year
  • the possibility of a permanent job at the end.

National Indigenous Cadetship Project (NICP)
  • Up to $15,400 per annum in financial assistance
  • 12 week paid work placement

Centrelink Indigenous Cadetship Program (CICP)
  • Cadets will be paid a book and compulsory equipment allowance
  • Centrelink will pay HECS fees on completion of successful results for each semester the cadet is on the program.

NSW Health Indigenous Nursing and Midwifery Cadetships
  • A study Allowance of $600 per fortnight
  • Employment for 12 weeks in your local hospital
  • Support from a mentor and Program Co-ordinator
  • On-going employment offered once graduated
