Work and Health Research Team

Work and Health Banner

The Work and Health Research Team investigates the nature and organisation of work and how it affects health. We aim to identify ways to minimise the ill health and injury caused by work and to maximise the positive contributions of work to wellbeing and quality of life.

Our special interests include flexible and precarious employment, working hours and work-life conflict, older workers, and the impact of workplace death. We are interested in the effects of work on both workers and their families.

We conduct population and organisational surveys, qualitative investigations using interviews and focus groups, case studies, and intervention and evaluation research. Most of our projects employ multiple methods.

The Team

The research team is led by Professor Philip Bohle and comprises ten team members with backgrounds in psychology, counselling and rehabilitation, physiotherapy, medicine, industrial relations and the humanities.

We actively collaborate with other researchers within the Faculties of Health Sciences and Medicine and with other groups within The University of Sydney, such as the Workplace Research Centre. We also work with various outside bodies, including government agencies, trade unions and employers.
