What is Honours?

An honours year is your chance to become a member of a community of health professionals committed to moving their career forward through research. Under a senior scholar, each student will develop research skills and make a significant contribution to the development of knowledge in their profession.

Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours)

Students undertake a unit of study that assists them in developing a research proposal and conduct a research project under the supervision of a member of the academic staff. Admission to the honours program is competitive, and students who are offered a place in the honours program must have demonstrated consistent, high level performance throughout their studies; be eligible for the award of a pass degree and be judged to have the aptitude to conduct a research project.

Honours option in the Bachelor of Health Sciences course is available to students of the Faculty as well as external students

Bachelor of Applied Science (Occupational Therapy) Honours

The honours program runs in tandem with the pass program. Entry to the honours program is at the beginning of the third year of the undergraduate program. Eligibility for admission is based on performance during Years 1 and 2 of the course. Selection of students into the honours program is competitive, and based on the student's Weighted Average Mark (WAM).

The focus of the honours program is on individual research. With guidance, students will develop a research proposal in Year 3, and carry out their research in Year 4.

Year 3 In semester two of the third year, honours students complete a research elective relevant to their chosen area of study, and a unit of study (Honours Research Seminar I) that assists them in developing a research proposal.

Year 4 In the fourth year of the program honours students enrol in three units of study - Honours Thesis, Honours Research Seminar II, and Professional Practice IV Hons. The honours program culminates in the submission of a scholarly thesis for examination.
