Biography

Robert's interests include the application of mobile and wireless technologies and Internet technologies to the health care domain, including secure electronic health records systems, social media and social networking and sensor technologies.

Robert's current and past research project leadership includes the role of first-named Chief Investigator on four Australian  Research Council grants, one DIISR International Science Linkage grant and a ADHC Applied Research Grant. These six externally funded research grants led by Robert as lead investigator, along with other internal grants, have a total direct cost value of approximately $4,000,000.

Robert also has an extensive track record in developing innovative educational programs.

Research Interests

Robert's current international collaboration is focused on investigating the application of new wireless mesh technologies to rural and regional applications such as enhanced healthcare services. His work under ARC Discovery funding is investigating novel approaches to trust in mobile computing systems and this is being applied in the area of more secure and private electronic health records.

He is also leading the Connecting Older Adults project, which is investigating how online social networking can potentially decrease the isolation of older adults and improve their engagment in the community and offline social groups.

Robert also has extensive and successful industry collaboration experience. Areas of research interest include the rich representation of data in various application domains.
