We provide and support a range of apps for your personal device. These apps are installed onto your laptop, and can be used offline.
For certain apps, a virtual private network (VPN) connection is required if you’re outside campus or not connected to the University’s network.

ArcGIS is a geographic information system that lets you work with maps and geographic information.
To use ArcGIS you need to activate your copy using a specific student authorisation code. If a code has not been provided by your course coordinator or lecturer, contact ICT Helpdesk to arrange one.

CSD is a database used by the School of Chemistry that allows you to discover knowledge contained within over 650,000 crystal structures.
To obtain a copy of CSD, you will need to accept the CSD System Use Agreement while connected to the UniSydney network.

GenStat is a statistical package and data analysis tool. To use GenStat you need to be connected to the University’s network or via a VPN connection. GenStat is available on Windows only.

GraphPad Prism combines scientific graphing, comprehensive curve fitting (nonlinear regression), statistical analysis and data organisation.
This app is only available to students. Faculty, alumni and staff with casual appointments, including those employed by affiliated hospitals and institutes are not covered under this license.

Mathematica is a computational environment used in many scientific, engineering, mathematical and computing fields.
To use Mathematica you’ll need to be connected to the University’s network or via a VPN connection.
Use of Mathematica is subject to the Student Home Use Addendum.

The Imagine library lets you access a variety of Microsoft operating systems and development tools. Imagine is available in two subscriptions: standard and premium.
Standard: is available to all enrolled students. To activate your subscription, visit Microsoft Academic Software Centre, select I have an institution issued email address, register with your student email address, and follow the prompts.
Premium: is available to students in specific faculties. If you’re enrolled in one of the below, you’ll receive email instructions to your student email at the start of semester.

Note: Only new users (first year students) imported in the system will receive the welcome email. As a student you can access the Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus subscription on up to five of your devices. Your subscription gives you access to the latest versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote.
Your Office 365 software will remain activated as long as you are enrolled at the University and connect to the internet at least once every 30 days.
To get Office:
- Visit the Microsoft Online Portal and enter your student email address and password, and select Work or school account
- You will be redirected to the Office 365 page. Click Install to download the client
- Open the client and follow the instructions
OneDrive for Business is a place where you can store, sync and share your files. OneDrive for Business lets you update and share your files from anywhere and collaborate on documents at the same time as other students.
NVivo enables you to handle rich text based information. It automates many manual tasks associated with analysis, such as data classification and sorting.
NVivo is available on Windows and Mac OS X.

SAS is a statistical software that allows you to perform data management, visualisation and prediction.
