Getting Started with ICT

Starting at the University of Sydney can be daunting. Our teams are here and ready to help you with this milestone. Here's 10 steps to get you IT ready.
1

Your Unikey

When you accept your offer to the University of Sydney you receive a login name and password. We call this your UniKey account. You will use it for all your access to our systems. Find out more information on your UniKey and what it will do for you.

2

MFA and cyber security

MFA, or Multi-Factor Authentication, adds an extra layer of security to your login. You'll use both your password and a mobile app to access your account, ensuring the safety of your information.

It is important to get this set up as soon as possible as it will be needed to log in to our systems. Read our guide to get started.

3

Email

It is very important to check your email regularly as all university correspondence will go to this account.

4

Wi-Fi

The University offers free wi-fi on all campus through the ‘UniSydney’ network. Learn how to connect.

Students can also access the world wide Eduroam network.

5

Sydney Uni app

The Sydney Uni app offers a wide range of tools and services to help enhance your University experience.

For more information check out our apps page.

6

‘Follow-Me’ printing

The University of Sydney has a printing system called ‘Follow-Me’. This system lets you print from any device (even your own portable ones) and get your printing from any printer on campus.

All or our printers are also multifunction devices – you can scan and copy on any of them.

For more information and setup guides just visit our print, scan and copy page.

7

Downloading software and apps

The University of Sydney offers you software for access on your own computer – either onsite or from home. Those packages that we cannot offer as a download to your own computer we offer through the UniConnect Cloud portal which lets you stream them directly to your own computer.

Our apps page has a full list of what we have and setup guides.

The University Library also offer assistance with the EndNote referencing software, this is worth setting up early in your degree.

8

Study Spaces on campus

There are many study spaces across our campuses that are available for you to use. Many of these spaces will have computers that you can log into with your UniKey. We also have groupwork spaces where you can collaborate with others on projects.

Check out our study spaces page for a list of where they are and more information.

9

Video recording

You may be required to record videos for some subjects. Canvas offers some very good guides that can assist with both using a webcam and screen captures.
