Teaching and study spaces

There are many kinds of teaching and study spaces within the Charles Perkins Centre hub designed to promote collaboration.

Each of the following spaces has been enhanced with technology to provide you with the tools to study, learn and collaborate with your peers.

Space Features

The X-Lab

A 240 seat wet laboratory featuring technology that allows multiple small or large classes to be conducted in the space.

The X-Lab has Dell all-in-one computers on each lab bench to help you access your class notes and materials during class, as well as facilitate collaboration.

Each computer has the following features:

  • A flexible arm – to give you the option to position the computer so you can type, refer to lab notes or move it completely out of the way to give you more bench space.
  • A touch screen – to give you more bench space, each computer has a touch screen which is especially handy when using Windows 8. If you require a keyboard and/or mouse, you can request these from onsite support staff.
  • Course specific applications – you’ll be able to access many course specific applications to help you with your studies.
  • Microscope attachment – you can connect a microscope via USB and view a live high definition stream on your desktop.
  • Ability to share content – your demonstrator can choose to share content from their computer, video stream of the lab equipment and more to your computer. They can also choose to share your content or your classmates.
  • Windows 8 – Microsoft’s latest operating system.

Dry lab 1

Dry lab 1 has 10 pod style computers which allow students to collaborate in groups of 6. The room also has 60 laptops that can be used in addition to, or in place of, the pods.

Each pod and laptop has the following features:

  • Course specific applications – you’ll be able to access many course specific applications to help you with your studies.
  • Windows 7

Dry lab 2 

Dry Lab 2 has 60 laptops and is a flexible teaching space that can be rearranged to fit your class style.

Each laptop has the following features:

  • Course specific applications – you’ll be able to access many course specific applications to help you with your studies.
  • Windows 7

Dry lab 3  

Dry Lab 3 has 60 laptops and is a flexible teaching space that can be rearranged to fit your class style.

Each laptop has the following features:

  • Course specific applications – you’ll be able to access many course specific applications to help you with your studies.

Dry lab 4

A microscopy laboratory containing one microscope with camera and one PC per student, supporting any slide based teaching.

Each computer has the following features:

  • Microscopes – view a live high definition stream on your desktop.
  • Course specific applications – you’ll be able to access many course specific applications to help you with your studies.
  • Windows 7 
Dry lab 5

A microscopy laboratory containing one microscope with camera and one PC per student, supporting any slide based teaching.

Each computer has the following features:

Gymnasium

The gymnasium has 20 laptops.
