Email client setup guides

Below you will find setup instructions for accessing Sydney Mail on your computer or iPhone.

Outlook setup for Sydney Mail

  1. Open Outlook 2010.
    - If the Startup wizard displays automatically, click Next.
    a. On the Email Accounts page of the wizard, click Next again to set up an e-mail account.
    - If the Startup wizard doesn't appear, on the Outlook toolbar, click the File tab.
    a. Under Account Information, click Add Account.
  2. On the Auto Account Setup page, select Manually configure server settings or additional server types and then click Next.
  3. On the Choose service page, select Internet E-mail.
  4. On the Internet E-mail Settings page,
    - Under User Information,
    a. Enter your name and e-mail address: UniKey@uni.sydney.edu.au
    - Under Server Information,
    a. In the Account Type box, select IMAP.
    b. In the Incoming mail server box, enter pod51000.outlook.com
    c. In the Outgoing mail server box, enter pod51000.outlook.com
  5. - Under Logon Information,
    a. In the User Name box, enter your e-mail address: UniKey@uni.sydney.edu.au
    b. In the Password box, enter your UniKey password.
  6. Click the More Settings… button.
    - Click the Advanced tab. Under Server Port Numbers, select TLS encryption connection for both incoming server (IMAP) and outgoing server (SMTP). Under Outgoing server (SMTP) replace 25 with 587.
    - Click the Outgoing Server tab. Tick the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication box.
    - Click OK.
  7. Click Next to finish.

Mac mail setup for Sydney Mail

  1. Open Mail, and then do one of the following:
    - If you've never set up any e-mail accounts using Mail, the Welcome to Mail page will appear. Go to step 2.
    - If you've already created e-mail accounts using Mail, on the Mail menu, click Preferences. On the Accounts tab, click the plus sign (+) at the bottom of the navigation pane to open the Add Account window.
  2. In the Welcome to Mail or Add Account window:
    - In the Full Name box, enter your name.
    - In the Email Address box, enter your e-mail address: UniKey@uni.sydney.edu.au
    - In the Password box, enter your UniKey password, and then click Continue.
  3. In the Incoming Mail Server window:
    - In the Account Type box, select Exchange.
    - In the Description, enter Sydney Mail.
    - In the Incoming Mail Server box, enter pod51000.outlook.com
    - In the User Name box, enter your e-mail address: UniKey@uni.sydney.edu.au
    - Click Continue.
  4. In the Account Summary window:
    - Click Create to finish.

Note: If you experience an outgoing email error once you've completed this setup. Try specifying your outgoing mail server (SMTP) as 587.

iPhone setup guide for Sydney Mail

  1. Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account.
  2. Tap Microsoft Exchange.
  3. In the Email box, enter your e-mail address: UniKey@uni.sydney.edu.au
  4. Leave the Domain box blank.
  5. In the Username box, enter your e-mail address: UniKey@uni.sydney.edu.au
  6. In the Password box, enter your UniKey password.
  7. In the Description box, enter Sydney Mail.
  8. Tap Next to verify.
  9. If prompted for server information:
    In the Server box, enter pod51000.outlook.com
    Tap Next to verify.
  10. Tap Save to finish.

iPad setup guide for Sydney Mail

  1. Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account.
  2. Tap Microsoft Exchange.
  3. In the Email box, enter your e-mail address: UniKey@uni.sydney.edu.au
  4. In the Password box, enter your UniKey password.
  5. In the Description box, enter Sydney Mail.
  6. Tap Next to verify.
  7. If prompted for server information:
    - In the Server box, enter pod51000.outlook.com
    - Leave Domain box blank.
    - In the Username box, enter your e-mail address: UniKey@uni.sydney.edu.au
    - Tap Next to verify.
  8. Tap Save to finish.

Android guide for Sydney Mail

  1. Tap Settings > Accounts and sync > Add Account.
  2. Tap Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.
  3. Tap Manual setup
  4. In the Email address box, enter your e-mail address: UniKey@uni.sydney.edu.au
  5. In the Domain/username box, enter your e-mail address: UniKey@uni.sydney.edu.au
  6. In the Exchange server box, enter:
    pod51000.outlook.com
  7. In the Password box, enter your UniKey password.
  8. Tap Next to verify.
  9. Tap the greater than sign (>) at the top of the screen to finish.
